Thousands join peace marches in support of Ukraine in many Bulgarian cities

The peace march in Varna

Peace marches in support of Ukraine and against the war are taking place in some of Bulgaria’s biggest cities.

The processions in Plovdiv and in Varna on the Black Sea have drawn thousands of people carrying Ukrainian flags. Similar marches are planned in Burgas and in Veliko Turnovo later today.

The peace march in Plovdiv

“Just a few hundred kilometres from here a nation is fighting for its freedom and for the future of Europe at the cost of enormous loss of life of innocent people and so much destruction. That nation surprised the entire world with its dignity, its courage and tenacity. It is time that we, here, made a statement that we are part of the EU and of NATO, that we have made our civilizational choice and that we stand by it,” the organizers say.
