Minister of Tourism expects record high winter season for tourism business

The winter tourist season will be a record one. It is expected to be 5 to 7% better than last year's, Minister of Tourism Ilin Dimitrov told BNT.

The start of 2022 was bad because of the war in Ukraine. In July we were about 27% below the levels of 2019. Thanks to the fact that we actively promoted the country as a safe destination, a level that is about 12% below the record for business 2019 was reached. As a financial result, the year is more successful than 2019, but the real profit is smaller, the minister said.

Dimitrov called on the parliament to keep the VAT for tourism at 9% and added that Bulgaria, Turkey and Greece are negotiating for the creation of a common tourism product in the region.
