Mass layoffs in Burgas in a Russian company related to Lukoil

A mass redundancy of workers is being prepared by the Russian company GSI-Balkani, which operates on the territory of LUKOIL Neftohim Burgas. According to the trade union Podkrepa, which has been informed about the redundancies, the company will be closed down. 

According to the 2019 public register, the company employs 238 people, the employer has notified that it will lay off 131 employees. The company maintains the LUKOIL Neftohim Burgas facilities.

More than 10 years ago, there were again redundancies at Balkani. At that time the employees took to protests, BNR Burgas reports.

The ninth package of sanctions against Russia, adopted by the EU, may limit the work of the LUKOIL Neftohim Burgas refinery in Bulgaria, warned Ilshat Sharafutdinov, Chairman of the Management Board of LUKOIL Neftohim Burgas AD, in an interview with TASS agency on 17 December.
