EUR 1,243 per month is the income a family with a child under 14 needs to cover the cost of living, shows data of the latest survey of the largest trade union in Bulgaria- the Confederation of Independent Trade Unions in Bulgaria (CITUB).

Living expenses have gone up by EUR 187 in the space of one year. Living expenses for a single-person household have gone up by 17.7% to EUR 690. Due to inflation and insufficient wage increase, for the first time in many years, a decrease in purchasing power was recorded.

Prices of 20 vitally important goods from the so-called small consumer basket rose by 40-50% year-on-year. Bulgarians can buy 6.6 baskets with the minimum wage. For comparison, Romanians can buy 11 baskets with the minimum monthly salary. Germans can buy 29 baskets with the minimum salary.
