The Russian church in Sofia opens doors

The church of Saint Nikolay Mirlikiyski (Nicholas of Myra) in Sofia, also known as the Russian church, opened doors this morning.

The church remained locked for over a month after three priests – one Russian and two from Belarus - were expelled from Bulgaria, accused of espionage in favour of Russia.

The new dean of the church, protoiereus Vladimir Tishchuk, who was appointed by the Russian patriarch, and three Bulgarian clerics, will conduct the first prayer service. It will be attended by officials from the Russian embassy, including ambassador Elenora Mitrofanova.
