The National Assembly has approved in second reading the State Social Security Budget for 2024. It provides for an increase in the minimum wage from €399 to €477, an increase in pensions from July by an average of 11% in line with the Swiss rule, and an increase in the maximum social security income from €1,738 to €1,917.

The minimum unemployment benefit will remain at the old level of €9 per day, but the maximum will rise from €44 to €55 per day. The maternity allowance paid to mothers in their second year of pregnancy will also remain at €399.
Parliament also passed the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) budget in two hours and without debate, as MPs from the Vazrazhdane party occupied the rostrum with a human chain. The NHIF's revenues for 2024 are estimated to increase by more than €560 million compared to the adopted budget for 2023. The health insurance fund's budget for 2024 will be just over €4 billion.
