Bulgaria orders 3 million additional doses of RNA vaccines

Bulgaria is to order more than 3 million additional doses of RNA vaccines against Covid-19, Minister of Health Professor Kostadin Angelov said at today’s cabinet meeting. The decision of Bulgarian authorities comes due to reduced deliveries of AstraZeneca vaccines to the European Union. According to Minister Angelov, the new order of Covid-19 vaccines will guarantee sufficient quantities of vaccines in Bulgaria and all citizens will have the opportunity to choose their Covid-19 vaccine.

Bulgaria reports 1,212 new coronavirus cases, 62 deaths

During the past 24 hours, a total of 1,212 new cases of coronavirus have been identified in Bulgaria out of 13,228 tests performed, data from the National Coronavirus Information Portal show. 9.16% of the samples have tested positive. The highest number of new infections is in Sofia - 313, followed by Plovdiv - 113, and Burgas - 105. During the past day 62 patients with coronavirus infection died, thus bringing the total death toll to 9,482. A total od 459 people recovered in the past day. The total number of confirmed cases of coronavirus in Bulgaria to date is 226,061 with 1,480,714 tests performed. The active cases currently stand at 22,065. There are 3,129 persons in hospital, as 266 are in intensive care. Since the beginning of the vaccination campaign in Bulgaria, a total of 62,428 doses have been administered, and 17,946 people have received the second dose of the vaccine.

Tighter measures could be introduced if new cases rise to 200 per 100,000 people

In recent days in Bulgaria there has been a rise in the number of new cases of Covid-19. A peak is expected around February 25. This was announced in an interview for BNT with the director of Sofia-based Aleksandrovska Hospital, Prof. Boris Bogov. Tomorrow's meeting of the National Operational Headquarters will decide whether to change the anti-epidemic measures if the Covid-19 incidence increases to 200 infections per 100,000 people. According to him, all hospitals are ready to respond to an increase in the number of infected people.The most common complications of Covid-19 patients are related to the respiratory and cardiovascular systems. Many patients also need neurological and psychological help, Prof. Bogov said.

Bulgaria has many advantages as an investment destination, Prime Minister Boyko Borissov said at a meeting with Austrian Ambassador Andrea Wicke and representatives of Austrian business in Bulgaria.The Bulgarian Prime Minister pointed out the inclusion of this country in the Banking Union and the ERM 2, which guaranteed transparency of finances. "I think that in Bulgaria we mange to cope with the pandemic in the best way in Europe and your companies cannot say that they work in a pandemic environment," Borissov said, pointing out the flexibility shown in terms of measures.
