White Rabbit Red Rabbit - show of spontaneous action

Author:

How does a theatre play without producer and rehearsals sounds like? You are wrong if you think that such play is impossible. We are to tell you about the White Rabbit Red Rabbit monodrama where both the audience and the actor have not idea what would happen on the stage. Producers Eva Ruseva and Monika Kovacheva lifted the curtain a bit and told us that there is no improvisation in that show and that the actor and the audience are led by the script only and have to perceive everything as an adventure. As for the title Eva Ruseva contends that one should visit the play, in order to understand its meaning. Generally it is about people’s behaviour and attitude in society and the limit of the compromise we make to be part of it. Here is what Monika Kovacheva told Radio Bulgaria about the monodrama:

“The actor appears on the stage without knowing anything about the staging whatsoever. The audience does not have any idea either. There is a very strong link between the actor and the audience, because everything is managed by the author. Every single staging has unique format and today’s monodrama differs from the one played yesterday and from the one that is to be performed tomorrow. We are not talking about a regular play, but rather of a social experiment, a literary reading.”

The idea about that staging comes from Iran. Its author Nassim Soleimanpour is an Iranian national who was not allowed to travel abroad, because his international passport was confiscated. He wrote that monodrama, so it can travel the world instead. Monika and Eva study in Great Britain. They have been living in London for over one year now. In their words, they decided to study there, in order to gain some experience. They hope they would return to Bulgaria later and contribute to the development of theatre, cinema and other arts with their knowledge and experience.

White Rabbit Red Rabbit was played twice this month- on April 13 and 18 by two different actors- Leonid Yovchev and Hristo Petkov. The New Theatre NDK and Sfumato Theatre Workshop hosted those theatre shows. The tickets for the first two theatre entertainments sold like hot cakes. However, the two ladies are planning to launch at least 10 more theatre shows in June and the leading actors will be always different.
