Health authorities recommend that Bulgaria extend emergency epidemic situation for another month
Bulgaria is exiting from the third wave of Covid-19 pandemic, this country’s outgoing Minister of Health Professor KostadinAngelov announced at the regular weekly briefing on the spread of the Coronavirus infection. “Common sense, our experts’ intelligence and discipline has dictated our actions at all times”, said Minister Angelov and voiced confidence that Bulgaria will soon serve as an example with the results it has achieved.
We must maintain the vaccination rate and observe the anti-epidemic measures until we achieve herd immunity in August at the latest, in order to maintain the positive trend, noted Professor Angelov. “Today it will become clear whether Bulgaria will allow the use of the Janssen Covid-19 vaccine and whether this country will launch the fifth phase of the vaccination concerning vulnerable groups”, added Kostadin Angelov.

Bulgaria reports 2002 new cases of Covid-19 out of 14,215 tests performed
2002 new cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed in Bulgaria in the past 24 hours, out of 14,215 tests performed, indicate data of the Single Coronavirus Information Portal. 14.1% of the tests have returned positive result. The highest number of new infections was reported in Sofia-394, followed by Varna-188, Plovdiv-184 and Burgas-123. The number of new recoveries is twice bigger than the number of new Covid-19 cases.
There are 59,087 active cases of Covid-19 at present. 8,435 patients are being treated in hospital, 786 of them in intensive care units.
3,935 people have recovered in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of Covid-19 recoveries to 318,208 since the beginning of the pandemic. 100 people have died in the past 24 hours.
19,168 vaccines have been administered in Bulgaria in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of inoculations against Covid-19 to 676,501. 143,185 people have received their second vaccine dose.

Bulgaria has registered a new record of vaccines per day. This was announced by the outgoing Minister of Health Kostadin Angelov via his Facebook profile. As of 18:30 pm Bulgarian time, 21,306 people have been vaccinated.
"Next month we aim to vaccinate 50,000 people a day," Angelov writes, thanking the Bulgarians for their trust.

Currently, no Bulgarian districts are Covid-19 red zones
There are 460 Covid-19 cases per 100,000 people on average, while the rate of coronavirus deaths is 23 per 100,000, announced this country’s Chief State Health Inspector Associate Professor Angel Kunchev.
Bulgaria ranks 14th in the European Union in terms of the fourteen-day morbidity rate and 2nd in terms of the 14-day mortality rate. We are also witnessing a downward trend in terms of the number of Covid-19 hospitalizations and Covid-19 deaths, said Angel Kunchev.

A decision on the Johnson & Johnson vaccine will be made on Monday at the earliest: Angel Kunchev
Chief State Health Inspector Dr. Angel Kunchev announced that the vaccination task force will make a decision on the administering of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine in Bulgaria on Monday at the earliest, BNR’s Horizont channel reports. He specified that this will take place after the US Food and Drug Administration makes its decision.
“We are currently in contact with several European countries. We would like to see a uniform European decision if possible, and a uniform practice. If that is achieved – OK, if not we shall make a decision of our own in any case,” Dr. Kunchev said.
Additional information is expected on Monday regarding the “green corridors” – walk-in vaccination centres, he added.

Vaccination rollout begins for staff in tourism industry
“Vaccination rollout is beginning for the people employed in the tourism industry because there will be more deliveries of the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines next week,” said Dochka Mihaylova, Director of the Regional Health Inspectorate, Varna.
No tightening of the anti-epidemic measures in Varna is expected even though it is top of the list in Covid-19 incidence rate, Stoyan Pasev, regional governor of Varna region stated.
